100% Organic and Fairtrade Certified Cotton

We’re committed to becoming the cleanest clothing brand in the world.

Kowtow was founded on a question: why couldn’t fashion have ethics, sustainability and transparency at its core?

In 2006, founder Gosia Piątek set out to prove it could be done. Imbuing her own curiosity, global travels, and connection with nature into Kowtow’s mission: to build a brand that not only positively impacted the world, but that inspired positive change across the industry.

Since then, we’ve been moving fashion forward. Proving materials can be honest, organic and 100% Fairtrade. That garments and packaging can be completely plastic-free. And that a brand can be transparent, ethical and sustainable.

And we’re still challenging it to change. With new, world-leading and open sourced innovations to help inspire a truly circular fashion economy.

“Spending time in such pristine places brings about a huge feeling of love towards nature, it crawled under my skin and made complete sense for me to start a business where sustainability and ethics are the foundation.”

— Gosia Piątek

Open sourced, and an open book.

Transparency has always been key to our mission. Transparency with consumers; educating our community on where their garments come from and what they’re made of. And transparency with the industry; open-sourcing our innovations to others to help inspire and speed up progress at scale.

Our processes and materials are all validated through third-party certification programmes that ensure they meet the highest ethical and environmental standards. Providing clear guidance for our suppliers and partners.

Fairtrade from seed to garment.

Fairtrade certified since our inception in 2006, every part of our supply chain is traced from seed to garment. Independently audited and certified by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation International (FLO), it ensures farmers are paid fairly, while working to improve sustainability, governance, inequality and community development in surrounding communities.

We work closely with our Fairtrade partners, have strong relationships with them and visit regularly.

See how each of our garments also gives back to the farming communities who help to create our materials here.

Keeping our textiles natural.

Our organic cotton is coloured using inks and dyes certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Making it free from chlorine bleach, toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde and aromatic solvents. Retaining a natural fibre that’s breathable, durable and easy to care for.

Alongside ecological criteria, this standard also validates working conditions in supply chain production, based on international labour organisation standards such as the right to fair wages, unions and safe working conditions.

B Corp Certified to balance profit & purpose.

A culmination of our journey to make with the world in mind, we became a certified B Corporation in May 2022. Joining a global movement aiming to shift our economic system towards one that balances profit with purpose.

Running a robust assessment every three years, in 2025 not-for-profit B Lab once again recertified Kowtow, confirming our commitment to meeting five key areas: Governance; Workers; Community; Environment; Customers. As outlined in our Responsible Business Policies and Sustainability Strategy.
